Over the last few years, our shop has grown in ways I never could have imagined. What began as a small antique booth over 3 years ago has slowly expanded into something with deeper roots, clearer purpose and a more intentional sense of who it's becoming. Choosing a new name felt less like a marketing decision and more like an act of honoring that growth, a way to give the work a home that reflects the values, aesthetics and care behind each item.
Where We Began
The business started as an antique booth. We filled a small space with found treasures: worn linens, old postcards, and those vintage kitchen goods that carried other people’s stories. That booth taught me how objects hold memory and how a well‑chosen piece can change a room. It was a hands‑on education in sourcing, display, and the quiet joy of discovery, lessons that became the foundation for everything that followed.
As the booth moved online, those lessons traveled with it. The eye for texture, the love of patina, and the belief that small things can feel meaningful shaped the way I selected new supplies and imagined the shop’s future.
Why the Change Matters
The decision to rebrand came from a place of clarity rather than necessity. Over time the shop’s offerings broadened beyond vintage finds to include carefully selected craft supplies, small‑batch collaborations, and materials chosen specifically for makers. The old name fit a season of discovery; it didn’t fully hold the shop’s new shape.
Thistle & Thread Mercantile was chosen because it balances two ideas we care about deeply: resilience and character, and craft and connection. The thistle suggests something that endures and stands out; thread speaks to making, mending, and the ties between maker and material. Together the words feel tactile, warm, and flexible enough to carry the shop into its next chapter.
The Thoughtful Process
This rebrand wasn’t a single moment but a series of small, deliberate choices.
I also reached out to longtime customers and friends for feedback. Their perspectives helped refine the direction. Working with new artisans and suppliers who value beauty, quality, texture, heritage techniques, and materials that age beautifully made the new brand feel necessary and right.
What Changed and What Stayed the Same
Change can feel big, so I want to be clear about what this rebrand means in practice.
What changed
• The shop name and visual identity have been updated across the website and packaging.
• Product groupings and photography will become more cohesive to reflect the new brand direction.
• You’ll see more curated collections and occasional limited releases that highlight makers and materials.
What stayed the same
• The same careful curation that began in the antique booth.
• A commitment to quality supplies and materials that inspire creativity.
• Our attention to shipping - both price and careful packaging.
